Where the wild things are

IMG_2552Bristol Forest School Saturday Clubs are an opportunity for monthly outdoor fun: explore our woodland and see how it changes, learn about new plants and creatures, make new friends, play games and cook on an open fire.

We have three Saturday Clubs: Minis (for 3-5 years), Adventurers (for 5-8 years) and Tribe (for 8-11 years). Sign up is in termly blocks to allow the groups to get to know each other and develop as a team – though the children often continue for years!

3758Saturday Club Minis is a family-friendly day out, designed for parents/carers and children aged 3-5 years (younger siblings can join along for free). In this regular group you’ll look forward to seeing friendly faces, work on new nature projects together and cook campfire treats. There is plenty of choice/free-play time for the children to explore, socialise and have imaginative adventures… Your little one could slave away in the Leaf Kitchen to present you with platters of tasty feasts or emerge from the dens with a wriggly worm – no session is the same!

IMG_1724Saturday Club Minis always incorporates campfire cooking for a snack or hot drink. This is made a large feature of with the children actively participating in the food preparation and joining together around the fire to eat. Food sustainability is very important to us and as such all ingredients are locally sourced, Fair-trade, free-range, and organic whenever possible.

IMG_20160408_131215Saturday Adventurers is a monthly group for children with a shared enthusiasm for nature and the outdoors. In their first parent-free woodland adventure the children can band together over games, exploration and imagination, while our friendly Forest School leaders will provide additional craft and skills materials to facilitate other nature and traditional activities.

We’ll huddle together in our Adventurers’ Den as the winter sets in, lounge in hammocks under the sun and gather around our campfire for home-made and foraged snacks. We encourage choice and freedom to create a relaxed environment – perfect for a Saturday morning adventure in the fresh air.

This group is for children aged 5-8 years (who have completed Reception or equivalent). For more information on our Saturday Adventurers or to book, please email aimee.homeedventurers@gmail.com

IMG_20160210_134956Saturday Club ‘Tribe’ is an independent session for children aged 8-11 that weaves together a sense of adventure with the support of a community. The children will bond as a ‘Tribe’ over team challenges such as shelter building or bow and arrow making, and socialise and roam-free in our diverse woodland. Forest School practitioners are on-hand to guide children through a series of outdoor, skills-based activities (safe tool use, rope knots and fire lighting), but there’s also lots of freedom and space for the children to play and explore – hiding, climbing or finding treasures to add to the ‘Nature Museum’.

Group activities will include foraging and outdoor cooking; stories around the campfire as the evening draws in; friendly circle-time sharing to encourage the children to reflect on their time in the woods and come to understand their place within nature.

Tribe takes place monthly, 1.30-4.30pm. For more information/prices/booking contact Aimee.

*NB Saturday Minis and Adventurers run simultaneously so that siblings can attend the Minis/Adventurers at the same times. Tribe’s session is longer, so follows the morning’s session after lunch.
