The Home Ed-venturers focuses on three core values: community, nature and child-led learning:

  • COMMUNITY We aim to create a democratic community through sharing, responsibility and friendship – where every person’s voice is heard. Each child can contribute to ‘community-keeping’ tasks – such as communal cooking or collecting firewood: we’ll celebrate both team-work and autonomy.
  • NATURE We’ll create an awareness of resource-use by minimising the materials we bring into the woods and choosing natural, sustainable equipment. We will listen and learn from nature, work with the seasons and utilise the woodland’s bounty in our activities.
  • INTEREST-LED LEARNING The children will generally be free to choose how they spend their time in the woods – we will encourage their curiousity and support their independent exploration. Additionally, there will be a focus project offered each session, usually decided together by the community, and led by an adult, in which the children can develop skills such as tool-use and natural crafting. The rest will be up to them!
