Staff/Inset Training
Bristol Forest School offers training for teachers and help and tips for utilising your own outdoor space. With a greater focus on outdoor learning in today’s curriculum, what better way to embrace nature than Forest School?
As teachers, we understand how important it is to continue learning – and to develop professionally. But we can also appreciate that with a busy school timetable and increasing amounts of paperwork, there isn’t much opportunity to expand our skills. Bristol Forest School has a solution: a short Introduction to Forest School staff training. This can be booked as an INSET day, over PPA time or out-of-school hours. The day will be packed full of practical activity ideas, team-building exercises and fresh air fun!
During this hands-on day, you will explore a range of nature craft activity ideas that can be adapted to suit your own facilities, and you will learn basic woodwork tools and fire safety for bushcraft sessions. Go away feeling inspired and confident enough to use your new skills with your class straight away.
These sessions can take place in our own Bristol Forest School woodland to help you see how an established site is run. Alternatively, we can come to your school to begin setting up your own outdoor classroom – such as making a fire circle area and building basic shelters.
Many activities can be adapted for a small natural space (such as within school grounds), to make nature an everyday part of school. You could then treat your class to an end-of-year trip to Bristol Forest School and put the children’s new-found skills to the test in a real woodland!
Cost from £250 (depending on group size) – contact Andy for more information.
*Please note, our Forest School Introduction is not an accredited course. For Forest School certification courses please see either Bridgwater College – the pioneers of the UK Forest School movement, or local charity – Forest of Avon Trust.
